Photos from the Idealist book launch party

It took some time to post these pics cause we’ve been moving to Brussels and things have been hectic. The good news is that we are already here and that the book is already in our hands.
The party was great, we met the other artists who participated in the book and had a fun evening.
The book is really something, exceptional quality and beautiful for the senses.
The owner of the boxing ring where the opening party was held at first seemed happy, dressed in a suit and sunglasses, looking like a padrino. But after he saw our video installation which included a big video of a naked man, he progressively got more and more angry as the night carried on. Luckily we didn’t have to deal with him, although it was very amusing. Just thought that it was worth mentioning.
Here are some photos of the party that was held at the boxing ring in Berlin with around 400 guests.

Here it is, the first edition of “Idealist” which has “Kampfgeist” (fighting spirit) as it’s theme, our project (16 pages) was made almost entirely in videos and then transformed into 2D for the book. It’s always a challenge to transform videos to 2D but the results were gratifying.

Above is one of the videos that we played at the launch party, this is one of a series of 7 dreams shown on ipads on the mirrors of the boxing studio.

Another “dream” video with an anonymous observer.

Here’s Martin on the right, the publisher of the “idealist”.

In the center stands Bimal, the curator.

There was a cake, but sadly we never got to taste it, it got devoured too fast.

Here’s Waty signing the 20 special edition books that were signed by all of the artists.

Signed books.

Guest list.

Party people.

People gathering around the book, waiting to see it.

People viewing the “idealist”.

Some peeks inside.

Book Presentation and Video Installation

We have been selected to be part of the first edition of the ‘Idealist’ book which features international upcoming artists. The theme for the book is ‘Kampfgeist’ (fighting spirit). Our work, which is titled ‘MEN’ consists of a series of video projections and photos which are made in 2D for the book but which are also created to be exhibited on their own in a gallery. We won’t reveal the details of our project yet…coming soon!
We have been invited to make the video installations for the ‘Idealist’ launch party, so all of those who are attending will be able to see a part of the project ‘MEN’ that is not featured in the book itself.
We are very pleased with the excellent care and quality put into the book and can’t wait to hold it in our hands.
If you would like to attend the party and we haven’t already invited you, send us your full name so that you can be included on the guest list.

Here are some words from the publisher and curator:

Dear Friends and Guests,
After two and a half years of development, the first issue of Idealist will be launched on May 7, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Fifteen extraordinary up- and-coming artists from eleven different nations present their works in the first printed gallery for contemporary art.
Kampfgeist, or fighting spirit, is not only the theme of the first issue of Idealist but also the motto of this evening in an exceptional venue.
Exclusively on this evening the numbered issues 100 through 200 of the limited circulation of 5,000 will be available for purchase. Each of these books is truly a unique original.
Entrance to the event is only granted to persons included on the guest list.
We are looking forward to sharing a fantastic launch party with you.

Share the dream!
Martin Lewicki Bimal Saha
Publisher Curator

Absence

New series by Waty.
Analogue, medium format, natural light.
The idea of the project is to take very conventional portraits with people looking straight at the camera. These portraits all feature people with one thing in common: hair. They are taken in the persons home or private living space, and each person is holding a different object.
Each portrait is a series of two photographs, one with the subject, and one without, to underline the fragility of presence, who you are, and where you are.

Shooting for JEANPAULKNOTT

We just came back from Belgium about a week ago, we did a shooting for JEANPAULKNOTT’s men and women collection.
The photos in movement were especially fun and gave surprising results.
Here is a little peek on one of the photos that Waty took.

Exhibition in Kamine und Wein tomorrow!

The long postponed exhibition in Kamine und Wein is happening tomorrow. Not only did they have a fire there, but shortly after re-opening some thieves stole the coffee machine and left the water running which flooded the place. The good thing is that the place looks so much nicer after the renovation. We will be showing the photo series of Amae and pen sketches.

The address is:
Kamine und Wein
Prinzenallee 58
13359 Berlin (Wedding)

Everyone is invited. Starts at 21:00.

Thousand lives – Bettina Moras

Yesterdays shooting for Thousand Lives with Bettina Moras

Bettina is a German painter from East Germany (Dresden), who grew up in the communist regime and saw everything change as she became a teenager. She studied art in Rome and speaks italian, a bit of French and English. Our communication wasn’t 100% fluid because of the language difficulties, but we understood each other quite well regardless of the language that was spoken. I first met her at a party in a bar in Wedding and immediately asked her to be part of this project, she accepted and decided that she wanted to paint my portrait. The first session posing for her was long and I was continually dozing off and then trying to regain my pose. The second session (where this pic was taken) was much shorter as she only had to work on some minor details. It’s very interesting to take these pics with a timer and I enjoyed the feeling of being alone and face to face with my work and my model.

Change

From now on, Ana will be responsible of taking the photos of Thousand lives. So the main change will be the use of a tripod and timer and maybe a different photographic vision. Lets see as it progresses. Waty will be working on the hair project and this way we can both concentrate on a theme and get more work done without diversifying our thoughts in more than one project at a time. We are posting the new pic for thousand lives, both of us, together, each with our own camera, facing our own subjects. This is the first Thousand Lives pic taken by Ana. Changes.

Exhibition will probably be in March

Last night we went to the exhibition space to see the damage the fire had caused, luckily it’s not so bad, but the walls are completely covered in soot and will need cleaning and repainting. The exhibition consisting of a photo collection (7 photos) and ten pen art illustrations will take place in March although a final date is not set yet. We will let you know when we have the final date.
Moving on to other things, we have a new little toy…. Medium format Hasselblad 503CX!

We will be looking for people for a new project, details coming soon!

Exhibition delayed

Well, bad luck for us this time. There was an exhibition planned for today as posted earlier, but there was a fire in the space intended for the exhibition a couple days ago. Nobody was harmed and the damages are not too severe, but repainting and cleaning has to be done, so the exhibition will probably have to wait till they re-open in February. Everything is ready and framed, so as soon as it is open, we will be there. Ashes. White on black. Re-birth. We’ll keep you posted!

We’re working on new ways of taking photos and Ana is painting again after a few years in the dark, so hopefully there will be new things to show very very soon.

As for tonight, paella and concert!
